Modern Standard Hindi is one of the 22 official languages of India and, along with English, the primary official language of the Republic of India.
According to Ethnologue, in 1991 there were 180 million speakers of Khariboli Hindi, the dialect upon which Standard Hindi is based and the vernacular of the Delhi region.
Standard Hindi is spoken primarily in India, Nepal and Mauritius.
