Danish (dansk), is a North Germanic language spoken by around 6 million people, primarily in Denmark. It is also spoken in Greenland and the Faroe Islands, and by 50,000 Danes in the northern parts of Schleswig-Holstein, where it is an officially recognized regional language.
Danish evolved from the East Norse dialect group, together with Swedish, and it closely resembles the Norwegian written standard language Bokmål.
Danish language communities also exist in Argentina, the U.S. and Canada.
